Checking Edge Tracking Prevention When Checkout Buttons Stop Working
A checkout page that refuses to respond can be frustrating. The place order button might do nothing, the page might reload without making progress, or a payment option may remain grayed out. A quick possible cause to check is the tracking prevention setting inside Microsoft Edge. Scripts that checkout forms rely on for calculating totals or connecting to gateways can be affected by this setting.
Edge’s tracking prevention blocks third-party trackers from collecting browsing data. A stricter level sometimes blocks scripts needed for address validation or payment processing. The result looks like the page has frozen. Noticing which level is active helps you decide whether changing it makes sense or the cause lies elsewhere.
Finding the Tracking Prevention Setting in Edge
Begin by locating the three-dot menu in the top-right corner of Edge. Click it and choose Settings. On the left, select Privacy, search, and services. The tracking prevention controls live here, presented as three choices: Basic, Balanced, and Strict. Which one is selected marks your current cookie and script filtering level. As a default, Balanced hits a balance between blocking mostly third-party trackers and allowing crucial scripts.
Someone may have adjusted it to Strict, which restricts more content and can cause checkout scripts to underperform. Check the label right beside the slider or radio button. Seeing Strict placed there flags tracker blocking as a likely barrier on that site. Both Balanced and Strict use similar descriptions but they behave quite differently during checkout.

Switching to a Less Restrictive Level for Checkout
Try making a short shift when checkout is unresponsive at the Strict level. Flip the selection to Balanced or Basic, then refresh the checkout screen by pressing Reload or F5. The payment box or the order launch button may become responsive with fewer restrictions. You do not need to restart the browser or clear any data for this change to take effect. After the purchase is complete, you can switch back to Strict if you prefer stronger privacy protection during normal browsing. Some users keep it at Balanced all the time, which offers reasonable privacy without breaking most checkout flows.
The problem continuing even on Balanced suggests the issue is likely not caused by tracking prevention, and you should check other factors such as browser extensions, cached data, or the site’s own payment system.

Checking for Other Browser Issues Before Blaming the Site
Changing tracking prevention did not fix the checkout page, so check whether extensions or cached data are interfering. Open the three-dot menu again, click Extensions, and look for any ad blockers, script blockers, or privacy tools that may be active on the checkout domain. Try turning them off temporarily and reloading the page. Some extensions block scripts even when tracking prevention is set to Balanced. Another useful check is clearing cached images and files for the site. In Edge, go to Settings, then Privacy, search, and services, and under Clear browsing data click Choose what to clear.
Select Cached images and files, keep the time range set to Last hour or Last 24 hours, and clear only that data. Reload the checkout page. The button working after clearing the cache indicates old stored data was interfering with the script. This step does not remove your passwords or payment info, so it is safe to try before contacting customer support.
